Compassionista
Productions, co-founded by Old Dog Music's Ollie Davidson, is
a new non-profit group whose mission is to promote various grassroots
movements and charitable organizations at their events, is bringing
together some of the best musicians and bands from the Chicago area
to produce a compilation CD with all proceeds going to the victims
of Hurricanes.
The CD has proven to be an exciting mix of sounds from Ruby
Harris'down-home elecric violin blues to the classic pop hooks,
soaring vocals, and pointed lyrics of Baby
Teeth's, Pearly Sweets Other acts include: Detholz!,
Pit er Pat, Icy
Demons, oRSo, Palliard,
Old Dog Music, All
City Affairs, Indian, Schizowave,
Sean Michael Dargan,
Russian, The
Amoreys, Coat, Matt Marque,
The Shoals, IZReelSoul,
Environmental Encroachment,
and Ripley Caine. This
CD will be great demonstration of the wide range of musical genres
and styles from the Windy City and the plethora of musical talent
here.
The compilation is now available and has been sold at recent Baby
Teeth, Palliard and Russian shows. The proceeds from the sale of
the Cd will benefit
The Association of Community Organizations
for Reform Now (ACORN). ACORN is the nation's largest
community organization of low and moderate income families working
together for social justice and stronger communitites. The
group was a leader in helping Katrina evacuees to find shelter after
the storm. Now their focus has shifted to fighting for their
rights to have living wage jobs and homes to return to. ACORN'S
national headquarters is in New Orleans. It too, was damaged
by Katrina.

The
Compassionista movement:
Every time an individual has to make a decision about anything, he
or she has an opportunity to make a compassionate choice. What you
eat, the clothes you wear and the form of transportation you use are
just some of the things we do daily that have a profound effect on
our world.
As we fight illegitimate wars, destroy our environment and consume
at a rate unprecedented in our civilization's history, fewer and fewer
of our US tax dollars and resources are used to help the sick, poor,
minority and other underserved groups, not to mention the failed support
of the arts, education programs and general public institutions.
With the corporatization of our culture, even many non-profit groups,
social service agencies and cultural organizations remain virtually
unknown because they don’t have the budget for slick marketing
campaigns or mass advertising.
The music industry, for instance, has mostly become a huge marketing
machine where artists are valued solely for their ability to sell
records and whose longevity depends on the number of hit singles achieved.
With these beliefs in mind, Compassionista Productions was formed.
Compassionista Productions helps creative artists and charitable groups
get together and create an event or fundraiser that will benefit the
groups and use the drawing power of the artist to give the charity
a wider audience.
We believe that an artist has an obligation to the world they live
to use their talents and performance opportunities to create a forum
in which to inform the public about a cause, charity, or other humane
issue they believe in.
With all of the overwhelming problems there are to deal with in today’s
world, we refuse to be passive or to simply sit back and complain.
Instead we humbly propose to combine a love of creative arts with
a sense of civic duty and enthusiasm for the large number of people
that still work hard every day to combat the aforementioned problems.
We think that concerts, art openings and other performances are a
great opportunity for organizations and their supporters to promote
what they do to the community, raise money to promote their missions
and celebrate their work.
If you are an artist who would like to participate in or propose an
upcoming event or if you represent an organization that would like
to have Compassionista Productions help you put together an event,
please contact us.

Old Dog Music began
10 years ago as a response to teenage heartbreak and the inevitable
loss of love, as evidenced by the lyrics of the first song:
"please don't leave me tonight
what are you trying to fight
now that we are alone
please don't leave and go home"
i am happy to say that there has been
considerable musical progress made since those lonely adolescent
days. but while the message remains the same, the object of the
quest constantly changes. the point of Old Dog Music is to attempt
to communicate these desires and wants into a unique and harmonious
voice, providing entertainment and levity along the way. i don't
try to claim to be anything more than a songwriter. my goals may
be ambitious and my perspective a bit utopian, but i promise to
always be genuine. and as was once said:
"never bore people...
and if you have something important to
say
wrap it in chocolate"
